XA-Appliances deliver the most advanced satellite and wireless optimization in easy to install appliances, right-sized for the bandwidth and number of users at each location. For small and medium sized sites, set-top-box appliances are easily installed without the need for trained IT staff. For very high speed links or central aggregation sites, fully redundant appliances can optimize links up to 155 Mbps and support thousands of simultaneous sessions, typically increasing bandwidth from 2X to 10X for all TCPapplications.

XipOS works between users of any two devices of any type. A central XA Appliance can support remote users of devices with XE-Embedded XipOS, the XS-104 single board computer or users with a XipStick portable optimizer.

Based on the SCPS specification, XipOS optimization simultaneously works with secure and un-secure users over any wireless network such as:

VSAT - TDMA / SCPC / Mesh / MSS
3G / 4G Cellular - Interconnect and Backhaul
Terrestrial Point-to-Point and Point-to-Multipoint
LTE / WiMax / WiFi - CPE to Base Station links

Xiplink XipOS Software

XipLink Optimization Software (XipOS) delivers maximum bandwidth across wireless communication links using extensions of the Space Communication
Protocol Specification (SCPS). Protocol acceleration, streaming data compression and Internet web browsing enhancements are combined in very efficient, easy-to-install appliances, single board computers and portable devices with options for integrated IPSec VPN, Dynamic Web Caching and standalone XipLink Hub Optimizations.

Remote user sessions are transparently split, or proxied, with new sessions opened across the link using protocol acceleration and data compression
techniques to overcome common wireless issues: Varying latency (delay) because of long links and users roaming High bit error rates because of constantly changing RF link conditions Link asymmetry because of smaller, lower power remote radios XipOS offers multiple techniques to optimize web browsing, providing both capacity savings and faster browsing. All products incorporate basic HTTP Acceleration capabilities. The dynamic caching option will save a typical
20-30% of the bandwidth. XiPix image compression can save a further 50% of the bandwidth.

There are no topology limitations or tunnels in a system based on SCPS, establishing a foundation that allows a network operator to deploy an XAappliance at the hub-side or logical center of any wireless network and immediately increase the bandwidth for those users that also utilize a SCPS based remote device, typically from 2X to 10X for all TCP applications. To maximize deployment flexibility, XipLink Lightweight Tunnels permit out-of-path deployment.

Policy Based Routing

This PBR solution also allows incremental deployment through steadily increasing the portion of the network to the XA appliance(s) once the optimizations are confirmed to be functional. For instance, just a single IP address or network link could initially be optimized. From the perspective of the XA appliance, the routing tables will remain the same through the scaling process.

The PBR can also act with differentiators such as port numbers. For instance, when deploying the XipLink XHO solution for one-way compression, the installer could choose to only forward port 80 traffic. However, to achieve TCP acceleration and QoS of all streams with the XHO solution, all traffic should be directed to the XA appliance(s).

PBR is a proven way to divert IP traffic for optimization without having to re-cable the critical network path. However, it does require the installer to be familiar with Policy Based Routing.

Wireless optimization for users on any network at any time
XipLink wireless optimization software is based on the Space Communication Transport Specification (SCPS-TP) and will optimize communications between users over any wireless IP network topology (Star, Mesh). Protocol optimization and data compression algorithms are designed to optimize the available bandwidth of any satellite or terrestrial wireless link while being transparent to both the enduser as well as other networking elements in the IP network.

One of the biggest benefits of the XipLink optimization software is its flexibility when operating over different IP network topologies. The SCPS-TP standard was developed by the space agencies to ensure a minimum level of interoperability through a program called “Interoperable Performance Enhancing Proxies” (iPEP). Some WAN optimizers are attempting to retro-fit SCPS-TP functionality into traditional WAN optimizers, but few are built upon this foundation in early wireless optimization for space links.

Building upon these early space standards XipLink has carefully added other wireless optimization features like data compression and HTTP pre-fetch, but in very efficient kernel code due to our partners embedding these software modules in many smaller devices that may have limited CPU and memory.
