Dual Independent reception of L-Band Satcom Downlink channels

CDD-562AL Dual IP Integrated Broadband Demodulator

The Comtech CDD-562AL is an integrated IP demodulator that receives 2 independent L-Band channels and combines the output into a single 10/100Base-T Ethernet port for transmission onto the LAN. The demodulators and the integrated IP Module are housed in a 1RU chassis. The demodulators are designed to operate with Comtech EF Data’s IP-enabled products including modems and Performance Enhancement Proxies.

High Density

The CDD-562AL simplifies hub installations by reducing rack space and costs by providing two independent demodulators in a 1RU chassis. A bank of CDD‑562AL or CDD-564AL demodulators are ideal for a star topology network consisting of a shared outbound carrier with multiple return carriers from the remote sites.

Quality Of Service

The CDD-564AL and CDD-562AL transparently pass the QoS prioritization established at the transmit end by the CDM-570AL-IP Satellite Modem.

CDD-562AL System Configuration

Header Decompression Option

Header compression reduces the bandwidth required for Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) by as much as 60%. Example: A G.729 voice codec, operating at 8 kbps, requires 32 kbps bandwidth once encapsulated into an IP/UDP/RTP frame. With IP/UDP/RTP header compression, the same voice call needs only 10.8 kbps total WAN satellite bandwidth. Typical Web/HTTP traffic can be reduced by 10% via IP/TCP header compression. Each demodulator can be independently configured for header decompression.

Payload Decompression Option

Payload compression can reduce the required satellite bandwidth by up to 40%. Each demodulator can be independently configured for payload decompression.

The CDD-562AL Dual Demodulator supports 2nd Generation Turbo Product Coding forward error correction and QPSK, 8-PSK or 16-QAM Modulation options. It offers fast acquisition, 950 to 1950 MHz frequency and support for 16 kbps to 9.98 Mbps data rates.

Other features provided with this new product are:

• LNB support: 10 MHz reference and LNB power
• Static IP routing for unicast and multicast
• Powerful network management via SNMP, Web or Telnet
• IGMP v1
• Point-to-Point or Point-to-Multi-Point configuration
• 10/100BaseT Ethernet data interface (RJ-45)
• Reflash using FTP via Ethernet port or WAN port
• FAST feature upgrades from factory or field
• Front Panel LEDs for Unit Status, Stored Event and the status of each of the two receive channels
• Interoperability with the CDM-570AL with IP Module, CDM-IP 550 and CDM-IP 300L and, similar to other Comtech EF Data IP-enabled modems, the CDD-562AL supports optional, advanced IP functionality.
• Quality of Service (QoS) – the CDD-562AL transparently passes through QoS prioritization established at the transmit end by the CDM-570/570L.
• Header Decompression – Configurable on a per demodulator basis, header decompression reduces the required
Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) bandwidth by as much as 60%.
• Payload Decompression – Compressing payload reduces both the data frame size and satellite bandwidth required to transmit across the link. Configurable on a per demodulator basis, payload compression optimizes traffic and reduces bandwidth up to 40%.
• 3xDES Data Decryption – Prevents unauthorized access to data over the satellite link, and is configurable on a per demodulator basis
